Talk:Possible Clues

Messages hidden in slashdot posts?
I think I've found something. The comments made by this person [1] over the last few days are...interesting. 67.159.44.42 08:13, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Looking over the last few posts, I've seen several messages embedded steganographically in the posts of the above-mentioned user. Most are trivial to pick out, just look for capital letters that are out of place, and they spell a short message. Examples seen thus far:
helpgladoslives killglados thecakeisalie shecanreadyourposts
There's one post that's more difficult though, found here. Below is the post, reproduced in full:
I am so sorry for you loss and offer my deep felt sympathy
While can say I hardly knew the deceased i felt a deep sense of loss upon hearing of their demise

In conclusion, he was a pick really...
The numbers look suspiciously like ASCII characters, encoded as 8-bit binary. I'll have a crack at translating them later. --Halbyrd 05:01, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Ran it through a simple translator.
Gordon is on the way. Keep it safe from her. Help is coming.
We should be wary of fake clues by people trying to stir something up. There isn't anything particularly ground breaking here that someone couldn't have made up. Derekristow 07:48, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
- Might be legit. But it's strange it are just comments. --Ywa 13:37, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
- If you want, you can create a section in this page other then using the talk area.--Jaysc 14:35, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'd just conceder it canon or trolling because he didn't do this until he posted in a portal thread. That's just my opinion.--Thomas 15:56, March 8, 2010 (CST)or whatever.

[edit] "Borealis and BBS" and "Woman" clues - obsolete?
Since we have the actual images from the GameInformer magazine that those BBS images are based off (namely File:GI 52 sentry.gif and File:GI_52_chell.gif), aren't these two "clues" obsolete? It seems plainly clear that no, that's not a ship that the turret is on in the first image, and yes, that is Chell in the second image, only in her new outfit.99.228.95.70 19:27, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
- Good point, i'll sort it out now. Thanks! --Jaysc 21:26, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
In all the excitement, we may have forgotten something. Have any pc users checked the OTHER games on the orange box to see if they were affected? There could be another hint in there.
- The other orange box PC games have not been updated in a while, this has already been investigated. -p0rtalplayer from myaperturelabs.com
- Yeah, it tells us if any other game has been updated or not, so no need to check. --Jaysc 22:29, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Really?
Sorry, this page just looks like a bunch of troll? I thought we were safely assured that the events in portal take place long long after the timing of hl2? I think these 'possible clues' should all be moved to false leads if no one is going to beable to find evidence that it comes from Valve. And even if it does, they've already tried to throw off topic before! As far as I can tell, all the genuine things, bar sound underneath dino_noise, have nothing to do with hl2. As I see it, these are FAR TOO SIMPLE to be hints from the developers. ASCII binary really isn't a grand secret. Had the binary been hidden in some audio or something then maybe. Capital letters in some slashdot journal? Please. --Rhyscoombs 00:06, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- It does seem like a load of malarkey. Ah well, that's speculation for ye. Xyerohour 18:47, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Companion Cube
There are multiple companion cubes in existence. This was proved when GLaDOS said "Good job. You euthanized your faithful companion cube much faster than any other test subject on record." EzioAuditoreDiPortal 16:04, 26 June 2010 (UTC-5)
[edit] The Wheatley video
In the closed captioning, the subtitle said, "off change" at the 0:42 point of the video. He actually said "off chance". It might be a lead for another clue, or just an innocent typo? And if it is a clue, I think it might be a cipher where misplaced letters form a password of sorts. There might be six more videos up, so my suggestion is to look out. And if it's the latter, sorry for wasting your time.
