Hi everyone, I recently found out about this (awesome) puzzle, and was immediately drawn in to it all. I dont understand most of the more technical stuff, and would never have been able to discover most of the information on this site (mainly cause i have portal on the PS3). However, i do have a theory on the escapist article found here: [1]
In the game, the cake was a lie. That didn't stop people from using noclip to hack into the room at the end of the game with the cake. In the article linked above, the ending was called a lie. Iv'e seen youtube videos where people have gotten outside to the parking lot featured in the ending of the game. Has anyone checked back there?

Ok, a few minutes after I posted the above, I went on youtube cause I was bored. I somehow came upon a video of the new ending in 3rd person view: [2] ...WHAT?!?!?! Any idea what this means anybody?

Me and my friend came up with one possible answer: what if that is some kind of camera, black box (like on a plane) or some other kind of data recorder/database? That would mean that the "valueable asset retreval" (think that's spelled right) was not for Chell! Then the questions arise: where is Chell? and where did she end up after the GLaDOS fight? and what is in that box that's so important?
You are thinking too deeply. The black box is a placeholder for Chell. -AngryCore 12:45, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

It very well could be, but why not think this deep? The article also stated that there was some stuff we have yet to figure out, and this could be one of them. And since I don't know how to do most of the technical analysis and stuff like that (the dinosaur files) thoughts like this are my way to contribute.
First of all, the person you are referring to, who said that, is Jason Holtman, director of business development and legal affairs for Valve. He is also quoted as saying in the article: "Some of it's been resolved. You never know" Mainly to cover the fact that he probably hasn't looked at every corner of internet in search of people discussing the Portal ARG. Did he even know that this Wiki existed?
The black box is a black box because we never see the black box when the game is played normally. Therefore, the fact that it is a black box is meaningless and is not important. So the black box can be compared with the bleeding radio.
Yes it is good to think deeply, but the last paragraph found here: Possible_2nd_Layer_of_Sounds#Thanks can probably apply here. AngryCore 07:38, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh well, I guess you're right. 34 days left...

Hm. A trailer. Cool. Personally, I think in this case the announcement of free portal is better than official mention of portal 2, especially since I have Steam and no new details were given. Now I can finally collect those pesky radios!!! :D
However, I ran into a small problem: when I booted up the game and started it, I took the chamber 00 radio to the button but nothing happened. I looked around for the signal in other places in the room, but didn't find it. I decided to just continue with the game and I went into the elevator. Next room loads, but there's no radio. Same with the one after that. I am currently almost at the GLaDOS fight and the only radios I have encountered are the ones that were there from the beginning. The "Transmission Received" achievement is in the achievement list, so I'm pretty sure I have the latest version of the game. Do I have to beat GLaDOS first and then the radios appear, or is there something wrong with my copy of the game?
May 15
Nevermind, I had to beat GLaDOS first. Stupid camera shy achievement...wait a minute. Can the bleeding radio be picked up? You know, like, to be taken somewhere for another signal?
No, in fact you can't reach that radio without cheating. 173.66.49.167 14:39, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

I knew that, but I'm betting that valve knows we can. So they might have hidden a signal there, who knows? On a different but portal related note, why can't HL2 be free also, cause I need it for the Portal: TFV mappack :'(
May 16
The bleeding radio is a bleeding radio. It is never actually seen when playing the game normally. All the clues that lead up to the discovery of the BBS could be found while playing the game normally (without cheating). However, you appear to contain copious amounts of curiosity. I recommend you do some exploring/no-clipping yourself. Just remember to turn off HDR/bloom (unless you want to go on a LSD trip) and don't shoot the black box (game will crash). Thanks for the HDR tip (it was very trippy...) and shoot the box? like with a portal or impulse 101? On another topic altogether, the e-mail that told me about your edit this morning used the link half-life2.nl. New domain or a mirror or something? Cause portalwiki.net still works.
Last time I checked, the shooting the black box with the portal gun would cause the game to crash. Or maybe it was garry's mod. I can't remember. As for the half-life2.nl, I noticed that too. I use the RSS feed, so i guess it took me to the mirror when I logged in :S AngryCore 14:28, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Man, I should have gotten into this at the beginning of March when it started, as clearly there isn't much to do here. So far, my nocliping has not yeilded and results, but I intend to continue. Random thought: anybody who is looking for something to do and doesn't want to try anything portal ARG related, look up the TV show Doctor Who. An excellent BBC science fiction / comedy about a time traveler and his adventures that's been running on the air almost 50 years. I recently got into it myself, and i am enjoying it very much.

Has it really been ten days since I posted last? Anyway, the reason I haven't been posting was because I got a copy of Super Mario Galaxy 2. Fun game. The reason for this post is that one of my friends brought up an interesting point today.
Does anybody know how hot the Aperture Science Emergency Intelligence Incinerator is? Because as GLaDOS says during the fire pit sequence: "All Aperture technologies remain functional up to 4000ºK." If my friend's theory is correct, then the morality core, curiosity core, cake mix core, and anger core are still active at the bottom of the incinerator. We couldn't figure out any applications for the still-active cores, given their position, but we want to know what the internet thinks. Any ideas?
(BTW, this would also mean that the Weighted Companion Cube is still alive also! But then again, it isn't really a technology so much as a cube-shaped chink of dense metal.)
Ah, I've thought of this before. Simple explanation: glados says that when you are going into the fire pit on the platform. Maybe the incinerators are specifically designed to be hotter than 4000 degrees kelvin, somehow.

That's why I asked if anyone knew how hot the incinerators were, beacuse we thought of that.

Although very surprising, the cancellation is not the surprise. my thoughts on what it might be:
HL2: ep3; probly not, but a lot of people are leaning towards it. HL3; instead of ep3. TF3; TF2 is still very popular and still being updated . L4D3; the first two games were released a year apart, so there is a small chance of this. Portal 2; even though they said it was canceled, GLaDOS isn't exactly the most reliable. or a large expansion to one of their released games.
June 15
I was so wrong. And I'm happy that I'm wrong. BECAUSE NOW THE PLAYSTATION3 GETS PORTAL 2 AND STEAM!!!!! However, I seem to be the only person on this entire planet who is truly happy that this was the surprise instead of episode 3. Mainly because I only started playing HL2 a very short while ago, and I'm at the part where you first fight headcrabs. And for all those people who are going to flame me for this post...fuck off you dicks.

- Gabe Newell has stated through supposed emails that there would be no ep3 at E3. For some reason, I got the impression that Portal 2 had already been announced for the PS3. Though it was still a pleasant surprise due to Gabe's apparent dislike for the PS3. AngryCore 10:53, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Well I did not know about that. And have you checked out the videos? Awesome! (obviously you have)

Today I wrote my first exam. The weird thing is, exam week I have the most free time. I'm serious, I was able to watch 3 seasons of Doctor Who so far, beat Super Mario Galaxy 2, find out about and play Gang Garrison 2, and beat my record Minesweeper time (which is now 179 seconds). And on Monday, I go up to Temagami for a month for summer camp. MLFTW. (my life for the win, instead of FML)
