[edit] Information

This page is for clues which may be right, but can also be wrong. Feel free to add what you may think might be relevent.

[edit] Hidden Messages.

This section was copied from the discussion session. Please try to keep the discussion to the discussion area and edit this section for the facts.

I think I've found something. The comments made by this person [1] over the last few days are...interesting. 67.159.44.42 08:13, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Looking over the last few posts, I've seen several messages embedded steganographically in the posts of the above-mentioned user. Most are trivial to pick out, just look for capital letters that are out of place, and they spell a short message. Examples seen thus far:

helpgladoslives killglados thecakeisalie shecanreadyourposts

There's one post that's more difficult though, found here. Below is the post, reproduced in full:

I am so sorry for you loss and offer my deep felt sympathy
While can say I hardly knew the deceased i felt a deep sense of loss upon hearing of their demise

In conclusion, he was a pick really...

The numbers look suspiciously like ASCII characters, encoded as 8-bit binary. I'll have a crack at translating them later. --Halbyrd 05:01, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Ran it through a simple translator.

Gordon is on the way. Keep it safe from her. Help is coming.
  • His profile says "I am ancient, long before the Internet there were these things called a BBS... I ran some...". Do we know if this guy is related to Valve or not? He also seems to have stopped with the "secret" messages as of the 4th, and imo they don't seem nearly as obfuscated as the stuff Valve has done so far. --192.91.147.34 15:12, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Well, Episode 3 is supposed to come out sometime around Portal 2, so this could be referencing that. 'Her' could refer to Chell, GLaDOS, Alyx, or Mossman (Chell technically is from the Half-Life universe, so this would make sense.) It could also refer to the unidentified deaf character in EP3. --74.177.112.54 19:06, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

However, there is a large chance that he is just trolling...

[edit] GI Foreshadowing?

the latest GI entry in their hub said to check the AP-labs site. this is more than forshadowing an update. probable lead, or maybe a deterrent. thoughts? 212.219.0.20 13:40, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

  • I was told a brilliant idea on mAL that this post and my post are on the same thing. (My nick there is ASBusinessMagnet.) 78.62.184.165 17:57, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
  • I saw on another page on the wiki that the AP-lab website is only for the original Portal game. If it was updated, then there wouldn't be a stupid looping Christmas video. Thepwnedgod 10:22, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

[edit] The March 24 Portal Hub Update

One of the tags included in the update is 204. It must be either 2.04 (April 2nd) or 20.4 (April 20th). Any updates on these dates? 78.62.184.165 16:18, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

  • Nevermind, I figured it out. 78.62.184.165 17:57, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

The tag 204 is kept used in:

  • March 26 update

[edit] dino 22 & 23

Dino 22 came from a picture taken at MIT. They have a museum that recently had an exhibit on robotics that also included the navigation computer from Apollo 11. [2] Also, all the pictures on [3] came from MIT.

[edit] Can Cop

On the #Portal IRC, it was speculated that the use of Herbert (the can-trashing robot) may be a connection to the infamous "pick up that can" cop from the first chapter of Half-Life 2. Seems plausible.

[edit] Those 'Mysterious Voices' in the 'cleaned' fizzle audio

Me and fellow Portal 2 forums users have discovered that at least part of the 'voices' heard in the descrambled audio is acually Wheatley as shown in the E3 gameplay videos. 94.7.207.105 20:27, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

showing voices, Wheatley and a spliced section to help clarify things 'cleaned' audio

[edit] The Ending

N'Gai Croal mentioned in an Escapist article that "the ending was a lie". He most likely could be referring to this particular part: near the ending song, the main character zooms through the bowels of the Enrichment Center, around some shelves containing deactivated personality cores, and finally to the familiar Black Forest cake, with the companion cube in the backround. A few of the cores turn on and a GLaDOS "arm" comes down and pinches out the cake's candle.

[edit] The Companion Cube

The Weighted Companion Cube can be seen in the ending sequence. Earlier in the game, however, the player had been forced to incinerate it. The companion cube has been sighted in the E3 Portal 2 trailer, but it was seen covered in scorch marks. This proves that the cube seen in the ending sequence could not have been the same cube that was incinerated, because the cube in the ending sequence had no scorch marks on it.

[edit] The Cake

In the "Ratman dens" around the building, there usually was a simple sentence repeated several times: "the cake is a lie". Since the cake is not real, that is another thing that Croal could be suggesting.

[edit] GLaDOS

There is also a possibility that he was simply referring to the fact that GLaDOS actually lived, instead of dying as she had appeared to do at the time.

[edit] The Dream Theory

There is also a possible chance that the ending sequence was just a dream that was caused by hysteria from some chemical (was it caused by the COIL-shaped volatile organic compound mentioned in the final battle and the BBS server?) or a hallucination, probably from Chell going into stasis.

[edit] Spectrum Management Regulations

A Facepunch forum revealed that a direct spectogram of dinosaur_fizzle matches the SSTV image Dinosaur 26. This suggests that there could be more images in the spectograms of dinosaur_fizzle2, dinosaur_fizzle3, and dinosaur_noise.
