The Thermal Discouragement Beam will be used in portal 2. It starts and aims at one position and you are meant to use Weighted Pivot Cubes to turn it towards a output hole, activating another device or completing the test chamber.

Information

The image tells us that the Thermal Discouragement Beam can be used to incinerate turrets or "Thermally discourage" them. The use of Weighted Pivot Cubes can be used to direct the laser in a certain direction. The beam should end at another beam hole, completing the chamber. This one keystone, when flipped 180 degrees, makes an image of Adrian Shephard in her gasmask [read teh books: "The Black Hole of Trauma," regarding P.T.T.S.D. by Bessel A. van der Kolk and Alexander C. Turrets, when Thermally Discouraged, will catch on fire and say phrases such as "Ow, it burns!" and then explode, leaving small metal bits on the ground. You may or may not have to hold the beam at a turret for a certain amount of time before the turret becomes Thermally Discouraged.
